Daniel Cunningham of BP Joins the Science Advisory Board

Dr. Daniel Cunningham replaces Dr. Sander Gaemers on our Scientific Advisory Board. 

Dr Cunningham has been Solar Fuels Advisor in the Office of the Chief Scientists, BP Group Technology since January 2012. His responsibility includes reviewing alternative pathways to liquid transportation fuels where sunlight is used as the energy source. He currently is managing two BP funded projects in this field at Caltech and Sandia National Lab.

Prior to this, he was Technology Manager at BP Solar. There his activities included module assembly product design, product reliability testing, and IEC/UL certification. Before this, he was Director of Technology for BP Solar’s CdTe activity where his R&D team produced a record module efficiency of 11%. He received a 2001 Research Partnership Award from the US Department of Energy for his activities in this area. He also has extensive experience in silicon solar cell processing and crystal growth. He has authored and co-authored over 50 publications and has 5 patents. In 2010, he received the BP Helios award for Innovation which recognized his teams work throughout the BP global organization. Dr Cunningham graduated from Southampton University, UK with a B.Sc (Hons) in Chemistry and a PhD in Physical Chemistry. He is also has Chartered Chemist status within the Royal Society of Chemistry
